FACILITIES
The Digital Craft Research Lab (DCRL) is a shared digital production studio designed to support movement between processes, materials, and ways of making. DCRL brings computer workstations, digital imaging and printing, additive manufacturing, and digital fabrication equipment together in one centralized facility.
DIGITAL WORKFLOW
+ 20 Mac workstations provide access to the software and digital workflows used throughout the lab, allowing users to develop projects from file preparation and prototyping through fabrication and production. Software includes:
• Adobe Creative Suite
• Autodesk: Fusion 360 & Maya
• Rhino 7
+ Pen tablets for precise designing and editing with a pressure-sensitive stylus.
+ Large-format photo printer for creating exhibition-quality prints up to 44” wide.
+ Risograph duplicator for creating single or multi-color prints and small-edition publications using a digital screenprinting process.
+ Flatbed scanners for high-quality positive and negative 2D scanning
+ CO2 laser cutters to cut and engrave materials, including paper, wood, acrylic, and textiles, from digital design files.
+ Desktop waterjet with 12” x 18” bed for cutting through a range of durable materials, including glass, ceramic, metal, and stone, from digital vector files.
+ Industrial Grade 3-axis CNC router with a 4’ x 8’ bed for cutting and carving a range of material
+ Portable Desktop 3D scanner that uses dual eye-safe red lasers and an HD camera mounted to a turntable for small-scale object scanning.
+ FDM 3D printers for additive manufacturing in a range of material at small and medium scale
+ LDM 3D printer
+ Mid-size desktop Vacuum former for prototyping and small-scale production
+ Digital embroidery machine
+ Ceramic decal printer
+ Clay 3D printer
