WHAT IS DCRL?
The Digital Craft Research Lab (DCRL) is an artist-centered public research laboratory operated by the Department of Art at NMSU. We bring traditional approaches to making together with contemporary digital tools, creating a shared space for experimentation, learning, and creative production.
DCRL supports NMSU courses and faculty research while also welcoming community users through staffed open hours, workshops, and public programs. During open lab hours, trained staff provide technical guidance and access to a range of digital fabrication, printing, imaging, and production tools.

WHY IS DCRL NEEDED?
Creative technologies are changing how artists, designers, and makers work – but access to the equipment, software, and training needed to use them can be expensive and difficult to find.
As part of New Mexico’s land-grant university, DCRL connects academic research with public service by making these resources more accessible. Through education, open lab access, and public programming, DCRL creates opportunities to learn new processes, develop creative skills, and experiment with technologies that are increasingly part of contemporary artistic and professional practice.

WHERE IS DCRL?
DCRL is located in Room 129 on the first floor of Devasthali Hall on NMSU’s main campus, 1308 E. University Ave in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
